Ren Ci Hospital & Medicare Centre [RCHMC] is a non-profit Voluntary Welfare Organization. We were set up in 1994 with the mission of providing quality medical, nursing and rehabilitative care for the sick and needy (with emphasis on the poor), regardless of race, religion or creed. Our patients suffer from severe physical disabilities, terminal or long term illnesses. Majority of our patients are destitute, homeless or from low socio-economic backgrounds.

Our operating expenditures are funded mainly by public donations and fundraising efforts. Besides government subvention and nominal hospital charges of $18 a day, we still need to raise $6 million annually for our 400 patients.

To kick off the year, we will be organizing the Ren Ci Charity Show on 12 January 2003. It will be telecast "live" from the University Cultural Centre (UCC), through Channel U from 8 - 10pm. Our target is to raise $2.5 million from this event.

We are honored to have the support from all the artistes from Channel U. In addition, celebrities from Hong Kong and Taiwan such as Heavenly King, Andy Lau, Wang Jie, key cast from the Hong Kong drama, A Kindred Spirit (Sit Ka Yin, Lee Sze Kee, Liu Dan), Ah Do, Luo Jia Ying, Ke Shou Liang will also be participating in this event. Calling All Potential Hospice Volunteers!

Hospice under the Care of Amitabha Buddha (HUCAB) is welcoming practising Buddhists who are keen to help the terminally-ill.

To equip you with the skills that are essential to volunteer in the hospice environment, a training programme has been carefully put together by HUCAB (see attached document). There are 12 training sessions spread over April to October 2003. There are other volunteer support including bi-monthly sharing sessions.

To commence your volunteer work with a hospice organisation, you will go through an orientation with the hospice organisation and an interview with the volunteer co-ordinator before you are selected. Subsequently, you will be paired with an experienced volunteer for your initial visits to the wards.

We will be holding an orientation session on 18 January 2003 (Saturday), from 2.30 to 5.30pm to answer your queries. We would appreciate if you could complete the attached application form and return to Ms Ong Siew Chin on or before 10 January 2003:

    -- by post ( 36 Jalan Datoh #04-01, S 329422), or
    -- by fax (67336223), or
    -- by email: hucab_abc@hotmail.com

Due to limited resources for each recruitment exercise, we have to screen the applications. We will contact you by 12 January if you have been selected for this round of orientation. We seek your understanding if you are not selected for 2003. Selection for the orientation does not guarantee your selection to be a HUCAB volunteer, or to volunteer at a hospice organisation.

Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact Siew Chin at 6731 4067 during office hours or 62588792 in the evening.
