May 25 to May 26 | Buddhist Library , The | Buddhist Seminar
This year is the 2550th Buddha Jayanti. 2550 years ago, a light descended
into our samsaric world. Having spent 80 years, most of which followed a
tireless schedule of teaching and counselling, the Lord Sakyamuni Buddha
entered Mahaparinibbana. Since his great passing, his teaching has spread
throughout the world, benefiting countless beings.
It is appropriate in
this auspicious year to reflect on the past, present, and future or the
Buddha-Dhamma. To this end, the Buddhist Library is therefore proud to
organize a two day seminar to discuss our roots and where we are heading
in the new millennium. The panelists are:
- Dharmacari Devamitra, Western Buddhist Order, U.K.
- Professor Chandima Wijebandara, University of Sri Jayewardenepura,
Sri Lanka
- Venerable B. Dhammaratana Mahathero
- Venerable Dr. Bhikkhuni Bodhi
The seminar will be on this
Date: Thursday and Friday, May 25 and May 26, Time: 7.30pm Venue: Buddhist Library

For those who have benefited from the Buddha-Dhamma, this is a chance for
you to help ponder on the trajectory of Buddhism - "the teaching that is
beautiful in the beginning, in the middle and at the end."

ABOUT AJAHN BRAHM

Born in London, Ajahn Brahm completed his degree in Theoretical Physics at Cambridge University. After teaching for a year, he travelled to Thailand and ordained as a monk at the age of twenty-three.
Thereafter, Ajahn Brahm began his training in the Thai forest tradition under Ajahn Chah. He is presently the Abbot of Bodhinyana Monastery and the Spiritual Director of the Buddhist Society of Western Australia.
Ajahn Brahm has gathered many stories through his encounters with the lay people and his experience in building a monastery from scratch. These heartwarming stories reveal the qualities of humility and diligence and expose moments of insight, wisdom and compassion in the lives of ordinary people.
His book "Opening the Door of Your Heart" which has captured the hearts of many, encapsulates modern tales of hope and love, forgiveness, freedom from fear and overcoming pain, and shows how the timeless wisdom of the Buddha’s teachings remain so relevant in our ever-changing world.
