    Mu Lian Saving His Mother Musical

    Siong Leng Musical Association which has a history of over 60 years will be staging a Song Yuan Nanxi-Liyuan Opera on 1st and 2nd May 2010, the first ever in Singapore to be adapted for performance within a temple’s setting.

    The Opera will be based on the widely loved story of “Mu Lian Saving His Mother” which has its roots in folklore as well as Buddhist and Taoist scriptures, featuring original scores and modern adaptations from Siong Leng. The purpose of this performance is manifold:-

    1) Preservation and perpetuation of an ancient performance art that dates back more than 600 years in Chinese history;

    2) To popularize and instill in our current generation traditional Chinese performance arts;

    3) To encourage filial piety, compassion and charitable behaviour which is the theme of “Mu Lian Saving His Mother”; and

    4) Contribution towards the building fund of Poh Ern Shih temple (all proceeds from the performance will be donated to the building fund).
